Hi, I'm Melissa
In 2015, I began this little passion project called She's a Pistol.
At that time, I worked as a federal law enforcement officer where I also served as the training coordinator. As fate would have it, my mom became interested in owning a handgun.... so we went shooting. Naturally, I shared with her what I knew from my own training & experience. And just like that... She's a Pistol was born.
She’s A Pistol is built on my mission to educate, strengthen, & empower women (and their families) through safe, effective, & confidence-building firearm instruction in a supportive & fun environment. We have steadily grown mainly through word of mouth coupled with the constant support & complimentary recommendations of the clients we serve, whom we affectionately refer to as “pistols.”

Melissa recently retired from federal law enforcement after 27 years of service. She enjoys working part time as the Community Outreach, Education, and Training Consultant at the federal courthouse. She and Clay have been married for over 20 years and share two children. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her family and serving her community.

In response to increased interest and demand for classes, Melissa brought her sister, Katy Blevins, on board in January 2021. Katy is a Realtor at Waters Edge Realty in Fairhope, Alabama. She is married to Matt and together they share four children. Katy is involved in her church and enjoys spending time with her family.

Annie has been shooting pistols with her mom, Melissa, since she was 10 years old. She is a talented snare drummer and a responsible shooter. She assists Melissa, especially when working with other teenaged girls and their mothers. She also enjoys assisting with the classes we teach to little kids. In her free time, Annie enjoys drumming, reading, and going to the gym.
